Ciné-Club: Dirty Dancing

Our third 80s-summer-coming-of-age July films, Dirty Dancing is set in 1963 in a holiday resort in the Caskills Mountains.

It's 80s cheese through and through, but a very palatable sort of cheese, with a great soundtrack that inspired an 'oldies' revival and choreography by Kenny Ortega (dance director for Michael Jackson's world tours). There's also a whiff of class struggle, a pinch of questioning on American identity and a heavy dollop of moral statement on abortion and responsibility.
