Ciné-Club: Dallas Buyers Club

Based on the real-life story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986, Dallas Buyers Club is a tale of resistance, resilience and community spirit. In the not-so-distant past, back in the mid-1980s, when AIDS was both completely misunderstood and highly stigmatised, one man's search for alternative treatments helped established a way in which fellow HIV-positive people could join for access to his supplies.

This is a very fitting opening film for our November theme celebrating Everyday Heroes, and one of the cinematographic highlights of the recent years, with won a  string of awards including Academy Awards both for Best Actor (Matthew McConaughey) and Best Supporting Actor (Jared Leto).
