Our theme in October is 'The War Inside', with films on war, prison and other forms of institutional violence. We start with Dead Man Shoes, Shane Meadows' 2004 homage to the classic revenge western genre, following ex-army Richard (Paddy Considine) return to his decaying Midlands village.
An unsettling, violent at times, but also darkly comical film.
This is a very skilful, superbly edited piece of moviemaking, intriguing, gripping. - Philip French, The Guardian
