Oud duo storywheel are Patricia deMayo and Keith Clouston.
Drawing on folk music of the British Isles as well as world music influences from the Middle East and North and West Africa, storywheel create a unique and coherent fusion. With original songs exploring the personal and political dilemmas of the contemporary world, their new and surprising arrangements of traditional folksongs highlight parallels with the past.
Between them Patricia and Keith have extensive track records as writing, performing and recording musicians. Individual credits include: Natacha Atlas, Transglobal Underground, Sham 69, Aires Flamencos, Raising Cain and the Royal Shakespeare Company with live performances including Shepherds Bush Empire, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Glastonbury Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Paris Olympia, ‘Later with Jools Holland’ as well as tours of Europe, USA, Brazil, Mexico, India and Japan.
About the oud: considered the ancestor of the guitar, it was introduced into Europe from Muslim Spain and known as the lute (from Arabic al’ud). In the early 1960s, Davey Graham and Bert Jansch pioneered a fresh approach to traditional folksongs using modal guitar tunings derived from the oud.
